Looking for your next job? First step - time to do a little #onlinecreeping...
Creeping: Online investigative skills usually intended to seek out old boyfriends and girlfriends, obsessing over their new followers and likes and who replaced you in #bae photos. Not a particularly useful past time, but it does hone a skill set. Instead of wasting hours bemoaning what could have been, what if you used those detective skills to land a new job?
Focus on Specific Targets
:
Online stalking works best when you have one or two specific companies in mind that you really want to work for. Focusing your investigation allows you to get a deep level of knowledge on how the organization operates instead of just a general idea of a company and its tagline. What is their mission statement? What core values do they embrace? How does the company promote diversity? What is their 5-year strategy plan?
Where to Stalk
:
Almost every company has an online presence and freely shares a wealth of information. What can you learn from their official website? What white pages or case studies have they published? Is there a company blog you can follow? Have they been profiled in the news lately? What social media profiles do they have? LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Snapchat, Glassdoor? Does the company contribute to any industry websites or organizations? Does it have ties to a specific philanthropy?
